Our Environmental Credentials

In April 2007, Lloyds TSB made the largest carbon reduction commitment of any FTSE 20 company, setting a target of 30% reduction on 2002 emissions by 2012. Our initial focus is to on improving our carbon efficiency and output across our business, through our premises, our processes and our suppliers.

Lloyds TSB Group has created a Carbon Reduction Steering Committee which manages its carbon reduction targets. In February 2008, we also created a Sustainability Network - open to employees of all levels and from any part of the business - to help raise awareness and encourage staff to take action at home and in the office. The network currently has over 300 members.

Our Executive Directors represent us on The Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change, Chair the Association of British Insurers and their ClimateWise initiative, The Scottish Climate Change Business delivery Group & The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative.

Across Lloyds TSB Group we are focusing on ‘reduction’ activity around five key areas; Energy, Waste, Paper, Water and Travel.

In 2007, we offset 160,902 tonnes to become carbon neutral and will continue to offset those emissions we cannot reduce. We recycle nearly 50% of our waste and have achieved a 27% reduction in waste to landfill in 5 years. We also saved one million litres of water in 2007 – that’s enough to fill 50 Olympics pools.

At Lloyds TSB, we pride ourselves on doing things the right way - we will make sure we keep pushing our reduction targets, whilst working internally to change the behaviours of our staff and our suppliers too.
