Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets are proud sponsors of the Chelsea Flower Show Charity Gala Preview

Chelsea Flower Show Preparation

Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets are delighted to be sponsoring the Chelsea Flower Show Charity Gala Preview for the next two years.  To enhance the sponsorship Trevor Tooth has designed our first-ever show garden at Chelsea.

Diana Brightmore-Armour, CEO of Corporate Banking and Co-Head of Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets, said, “We are proud to sponsor the Charity Gala Preview.  Corporate customers look to Lloyds TSB to work with them through their various stages of business growth and development and this sponsorship provides us with an excellent platform to promote these capabilities.”

Inga Grimsey, Director General of the RHS said, “The Chelsea Charity Gala Preview has a proud tradition as a regular fixture in the City calendar.  We are delighted to associate the event with a blue chip, highly regarded FTSE 100 company such as Lloyds TSB.

“The Gala sponsorship provides valuable additional income which this year will help support one of our most important charitable initiatives, Britain in Bloom, which has over 1,000 communities from across the UK taking part each year and is the largest horticultural campaign in the world.”

Mark Preston, CEO of Products and Markets and Co-Head of Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets, added, “This sponsorship gives us the opportunity to associate two institutions which are both highly regarded as great British brands. The fantastic work that the RHS does in our local communities is something we are pleased to help support.”

The concept

Trevor’s design imagines the new possibilities open to a middle-aged couple whose children have left home.

Suddenly what was merely a functional family space has become an area rich in possibility – as the couple enter each new phase of their lives, with new aspirations and activities, the garden evolves with them. At this point in their life, it expresses their love for modern art, creating a personal space in which to relax and entertain.

The Lloyds TSB Show Garden is influenced by the artist Mondrian’s abstract paintings of trees and bold use of primary colours. This has inspired a modern formal garden in grid-like sections using the Lloyds TSB colours within the planting, walls and paving to reflect our identity. Traditional elements and planting are given a modern and innovative treatment to further illustrate Lloyds TSB’s continual aim to evolve in order to meet the changing needs of our customers.

A talented, young artist of the future will be in residence at the Lloyds TSB Show Garden at the 2007 Chelsea Flower Show.

London artist Alex Gough has been commissioned to capture the Lloyds TSB Show Garden, a garden inspired by 20th century artist Piet Mondrian and developed for an imaginary middle-aged couple with a love for modern art.

Alex Gough, 25, has been described by art writer Meredith Etherington-Smith as “a young London painter to watch.” Alex’s recent work depicts pine trees in Lapland using primary colours, linking with colour themes in the Lloyds TSB Show Garden.

Alex says: “I will be preparing a response to the silver birch trees in Trevor Tooth’s design. The garden was originally inspired by Mondrian’s characteristic grid-like paintings of trees, so I’m delighted that a thread has developed from original concept, to garden, through to my art. “My practice contains two different disciplines: painting and photography. My paintings concern notions of the sublime, in its traditional and modern sense and they range from the abstract to the figurative. I work in oils, painting finer detail with Indian ink. This creates a warmth from orange tones within the colours and a tension to the piece.”

Alex will be producing several different paintings through the week. One of his unique canvases can be won in a prize draw during the show. The other pictures will be auctioned to raise money for the Royal Horticultural Society and Barnardos, which is Lloyds TSB’s Charity of the Year.
